Promotion Committee
The Corrales MainStreet News is a quarterly publication funded and produced by Corrales MainStreet promotions committee as a community service. This community newsletter is distributed free of charge to Village residents, regional chambers of commerce, and visitors bureaus. All Village organizations and citizens are encouraged to submit editorial materials and photographs. Submissions may be edited for content and space. For additional information, please contact Carla Wright, 897-3351.
The committee obtains paid and unpaid advertising and promotional opportunities to publicize the Village businesses. Recently there were articles in The Albuquerque Journal, The Rio Rancho Observer, and the Corrales Comment to encourage individuals to do their holiday shopping in Corrales and tour bed and breakfast that were decorated for the holidays. Ads promoting the Village as a destination:
Explore the Village of Corrales – Sample native cuisine at our restaurants, explore unique Sample a vintage wine at a local winery, stroll through our riverside eclectic shops and galleries, and retreat to a wonderful spa Nature Preserve, are included in local visitors’ guides.
Corrales MainStreet is working with businesses to make Corrales a destination for all visitors near and far. A special event to attract visitors is called Sunday in the Village. It is held the third Sunday of each month from 11-5 pm. It includes, for much of the year, the Growers Market, Art in the Park, as well as special activities at the many of the local businesses including shops, galleries, wineries, Casa San Ysidro Museum, bed and breakfasts and restaurants. MainStreet coordinates the advertising to achiever maximal visibility.
The committee sponsors special events including two parades. Many members of the community participate in the infamous Fourth of July Parade. This fun-filled event includes a talented Kazoo band, horses decked out in their finest, floats, fire engines, historic cars, and many organizations. How many other Fourth of July Parades include a llama?
The Starlight Parade begins the holiday celebration with a lighted parade that travels down Corrales Road. All the participating organizations have illuminated motorized creations.
The committee has just begun a project to help local businesses and organizations maximize their advertising dollars. Following a kick off meeting in November, a core of businesses will begin meeting to develop next steps. For additional information contact Nancy Renner, Promotions Committee chair at 898-1800.

Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee seeks to develop strategies that will result in improved retail mix, a stronger tax base, increased investor confidence and a stable role for the MainStreet businesses as a major component in the improvement of the village’s economy. The committee has conducted tours of the MainStreet businesses. We have implemented a leakage study to determine which businesses are supported locally, what category of business generates the most gross receipts taxes, and what type of businesses the village needs to attract. We have retained a national retail business expert, Scott Day, to consult with local businesses. Scott met individually with each business owner identifying his or her needs and resolving problems. Each business received a private report. A comprehensive questionnaire has been distributed to businesses to ascertain both unique and common business challenges. When the data is collected and analyzed an informative report will be published on the needs of existing businesses. We will then help find solutions to local business problems. The Committee will engage consultants, lenders, and other business consultants for the benefit of the business community depending on the information gathered. This year we will begin to recruit new and established businesses to relocate or reestablish themselves in Corrales. Ann Taylor

Design Committee
The Design Committee is concerned with the appearance of the downtown space. The MainStreet design philosophy is rooted in historic preservation and seeks to use and enhance those unique elements that remain in our community. Currently, the Design Committee's focus is on a downtown pathway that would be in keeping with our visual façade. It is the expectation that this project can be expanded in the future to provide connecting trails within the village. The committee is also are responsible for the Memorial Tree Program of beautification through the planting of trees on public property.
This year the committee wrote a grant to the University of New Mexico Emergency Department for Walkable Communities. Corrales MainStreet was awarded $5500 for a “polypavement” test strip in front of the Village offices. The committee also wrote a request and was awarded from the Sandoval County $10,000 for an additional “polypavement” test strip on private property on Corrales Road. The committee requested and was granted assistance from the National Park Service for planning a trails system throughout the village for alternate modes of transportation (walk, bicycle, horse back riding). These efforts are being coordinated with local bicycle enthusiasts and horseback riders (CHAMP) to do preliminary planning for this series of trails. Corrales MainStreet was responsible for four memorial trees planted at the recreation center. Linda Fahey

Organization
The Organization Committee plays a key role in keeping the board, committees, staff, and program-of-work fully staffed with outstanding volunteers by attracting people and money to the organization. To succeed the committee must take responsibility for managing the financial and logistical aspects of a non-profit organization by:
- Raising money - for projects and administration, from memberships, donations and sponsorships;
- Managing staff and volunteers - by recruiting people, supervising them, and rewarding good work;
- Promoting the program - to downtown interests and the public;
- Managing finances - by developing good accounting procedures.
